My Novel

My current work in progress is Water Hazard, and I’m so excited to say that it’s finished! I’m currently sending queries out to agents to get the herculean publishing ball rolling.

Water Hazard is a fun and creepy paranormal thriller about three high school kids living in a small logging town in the dark foothills of Mt. Rainier. A series of murders that nobody seems to be paying attention to leads them to uncover a plot to release an ancient monster living in the lake of a new golf course.

It’s DNA contains bits of Twin Peaks, Lovecraft, It, and maybe a tiny bit of Scooby Doo. It had a surprise cousin when Stranger Things came out and Edgar Cantero’s amazing novel Meddling Kids is another distant relative.

Writing a teen protagonist is way more fun than the serious, brooding adults I’ve dealt with in previous projects. Teens are so much more resilient and have a naive optimism that I miss. The teens in Water Hazard are at the beginning of the transition into adulthood. The adults around them aren’t able to solve their problems for them and they’re learning the power they have within themselves. They’re also not totally independent (well at least two of them aren’t) and there are still some sweet moments where they are still getting support from their families.
